conduits of the hydrosphere
CD / Digital / Book
Release Date: May 15th, 2022

Conduits of the Hydrosphere is the result of 10 years of artistic research. Using movement practices of Butoh, Body Weather Laboratory, and Noguchi Taiso, seah has been traveling the world doing field recordings with worn mic's and cameras while interacting with various bodies of water.
The 5 tracks on the album are a result of audio-visual manipulations, movement, and philosophical research based on Critical Feminist Posthumanism into what it means to be a human, part of the hydrosphere, and a water body simultaneously.

“'s amniotic, but far from the ‘return to the womb’ ambient - more like a sonification of an ultrasound of various parts of the human body”
                                                                                                                                                ~ Jim Haynes, Helen Scarsdale.

“It has a sort of heaviness which I am very attracted to, yet a beautiful lushness throughout, almost like bits of rich color coming out of a field of black and white grain. Light on water emerging from a field of blackness flickering and gone.
I love the hints of melody that emerged after a few listens. Also the tectonic movement that comes across throughout,
especially track one. Quite intense, sometimes dark but oftentimes just more like nature with all its complexities.
Listening to the 4th track, it had a sort of spirit photography feel, a sonic equivalent. Not just ghosts in photography, but auras and spirits beyond the grasp of human perception. One could say giving space to the narrativeless existence
outside of time and space.
The improvisatory qualities of the last track are a striking way of transforming and then ending the listen, similar feel to the rest of the album but almost like a drugged out deranged guitar tried to make sense of the water, tectonic and spirit elements over a sea of slowly shifting waves. Hypnotic but with details always present and in the foreground.”
                                                                                                                                             ~ Matthew Swieznyski, Darkness Moves

seah is the artist name for Chelsea Heikes, who is also working on philosophical texts. As artist and philosopher, seah has given movement workshops, guest lectures, and participated in numerous academic conferences in the US, Europe, Canada, and Asia. The philosophical writing is a meditation on Critical Feminist Posthumanism (tethered to the writings of Deleuze and Guattari), New Materialism, and art theory. The art practices encompasses movement (Butoh, Body Weather Laboratory, and Noguchi Taiso), audio-visual composition, and installations.
