Somnimage Fall News
We are happy to offer up to you a BIG day on Friday October 4th.
Somnimage is proud to sign Chicago-based electronic/experimental artist
Anna Johnson and announce the debut of her full-length neomedieval album “Swarm of Tongues”. The moody, ethereal album’s foundation was laid during a time when Anna shifted focus to uncovering her own solo electronic practice. Anna brings an experimental, improvisational approach to her foundations in sacred choral music and traditional polyphony: layering, looping and processing her voice and instruments into new sounds. Personal experiences as well as broader spiritual understandings of life and mythical archetypes provide “Swarm of Tongues” with its surreal and abstract narrative, bringing the listener to the shores of a non-physical elsewhere. Fans of Julia Holter, Enya, Grouper, & Kate Bush will be sure to love this sublime candle in the dark.  “Swarm of Tongues” is out October 2nd and Anna Johnson will celebrate two special release shows for the album - The first at The Empty Bottle in Chicago on 10/7, and the second at The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis on 10/8.

Sawing Sound is Toby Kaufmann-Buhler
from the artist....
This was recorded in June 2026 after a period of development beginning early in the year. I normally incorporate other, non-saw material (often field recordings) into the Sawing Sound work; with this I wanted to give the saw its own space and deviate from some of my other long-standing habits, toward a more expansive, detailed approach. I wanted to hear more sides of the saw.
